KPlato is a small and easy project management application, a part of the KOffice office suite. Developers of the application focus on planning and scheduling of projects. This article highlights key features of the application and shows several screenshots. The most important feature of KPlato is a Gantt view with task list and resource allocations per task. Resource view with task allocations per resource is also available. Accounts view shows planned cost with configurable cut-off date and periodicity.
Tasks are organized in a work breakdown structure (WBS). Resources are organized in a resource breakdown structure (RBS). And accounts are organized in a cost breakdown structure (CBS).
Gantt chart can optionally show task links, task name, allocated resources, critical path, critical tasks and progress. Summarytasks, Tasks, and milestones are supported. Task links can be of types: Finish to Start, Finish to Finish or Start to Start.
KPlato as included in KOffice 1.5 is a technology preview release and it is still not advised to use KPlato in critical production scenarios. The purpose of the K PLAnning TOol (KPlato) project is to develop a Project Management tool for Linux that will allow people to effectively plan and schedule projects in many different fields, including software development, manufacturing processes, and construction.
